What If I Feel Like God Has Forgotten Me?

Read (from the New Living Translation)

1 O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever?
How long will you look the other way?

2 How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul,
with sorrow in my heart every day?
How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

3 Turn and answer me, O Lord my God!
Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die.

4 Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him!”
Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall.

5 But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.

6 I will sing to the Lord
because he is good to me.

Psalm 13

Go Deep

Is what you know in your head about God not quite resonating in your heart? Laura Story gets it. When the words “brain tumor” entered her marriage, she had to re-learn how to trust God’s promises. The Psalms showed her some hugely important lessons from David during that time. She shares them in today’s inspiring video.

Laura tells her story, then unpacks this passage: “I love this passage because David is HONEST. He doesn’t sugar coat it… I love that this gives me permission to say those kind of things to God in prayer…

And he ends with HOPE… Maybe it might not look the way I want. Maybe it might not be on my timeframe… It’s believing that God’s track record of faithfulness in my life is so sure that I’m gonna praise him now – believing that He is a good and faithful God and I will see goodness in the midst of my hard time.”

Notes from the Beyond Suffering Bible

How Long? – When Jesus cried out “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” (Mark 15:34), all creation bent low to hear God’s precious Son express the fullness of human suffering with an agonizing question. In Jesus’ prayer the night before, our Savior modeled the best posture for responding to doubts and questions—“Yet I want your will to be done, not mine” (Mark 14:36). By surrendering his will to the Father, Jesus left us with the correct response to all of our questions: trust.

It hit me like a ‘stone in the head’ when Laura said…”Look at the Lord’s track record !” Those are words that relate to my spirit, character, and evidences that I can’t deny looking back through all the changes in my life. When we believed it was our demise, or the pain was too great, or we were cast into confusion….The Lord’s ‘track record’ (in His timing and place) shown through…. “Thank you Laura, Thank you Lord !”
