Walker Hayes Sings About His Christian Friend Who Gave Him a Van

Country music’s divine leanings are well-documented, but usually it sounds more like colloquial reference like Blake Shelton’s song “God’s Country” or God helping someone find true love like Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road.”

Walker Hayes approaches singing about God through slightly different angle. He sings about his friend Craig, a Christian guy who bought him a mini van when his family had hit rock bottom financially. Walker admits he doesn’t know much about God yet by singing, “I still aint figured out church yet.” And he continues, “But Craig I get.”

In a couple of years, Walker Hayes’ faith has grown to not only get Craig, but also to get the transforming person of Jesus who guides Craig.

In a June 2020 interview with everythingnash.com, Walker says, “Humanity cannot fix humanity… as you look at what’s going on right now, I think just the constant failure of humanity to fix itself is just powerful evidence to me that we need Jesus Christ.”

And in case you’re wondering, “Craig” isn’t a made up person. In a 2018 CMT News interview, Hayes admitted the song is a true story about how Walker was helped by his Christian friend, Craig.
