Pastor Stops Gunmen in Church Service Through Prayer

Have you ever heard the phrase “the right place at the right time?” Pastor Marquaello Futrell, a former police officer, took notice during his sermon of 3 men carrying guns entering his church. He continued the service to avoid a panic but redirected his message toward the group of men who seemed to be up to no good.

“The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” | Psalm 37:23 NLT

Many times in our individual lives we stop what we are doing to pray when we feel endangered. Pastor Futrell did exactly that. He asked the men if he could pray for them. What happened next was powerful. The congregation got up and surrounded the men while they prayed for the men. The time of prayer allowed for the police to be called and the men were arrested for robbing another business earlier in the day.

We can learn a couple things about prayer from this situation. First, prayer brings peace into hostile situations. Second, prayer is an opportunity to call on the name of someone greater to bring support to a horrible situation. After praying for the gunmen, Pastor Futrell kept on preaching. He said, “When the enemy of the Lord comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up like a standard.”

“In the west, people will respect the name of the LORD; in the east, they will glorify him. For he will come like a raging flood tide driven by the breath of the LORD.” | Isaiah 59:19 NLT

And all the people said; “Amen!”

This is amazing! An excellent example of how God can use us in these dark days.
