Is there a song that’s had such a deep impact on your life that it saved you?
September is Suicide Awareness month so Matthew West released a special version of “Too Young Too Soon” featuring his daughter Lulu in honor of her friend Sam. Matthew west shared that he hope this song will be a reminder to us all to be kind to each other and speak love. You never know when it might make all the difference.
I lost my oldest son age 27, to suicide 5 weeks ago. He had a mental illness. He was high risk and escaped the hospital. I am heart broken. Every day I cry out to Jesus for his strength. This deep dark valley is such a sad and lonely road. Yet I look for the promise of my God every day. I have so many questions, he loved the Lord, he wondered why he suffered so much. My husband and I have 4 other children, we are all trying to cope with our loss.

Oh, Lulu has a beautiful voice! I remember hearing her on early albums when she was younger. I’m sorry Lulu you had to experience losing your best friend through suicide at such a young age. Hopefully through this song it will help people realize that kids to experience depression. That bullying hurts and to be kind. I’m glad you and your dad did this song. It hurts my heart to think kids have to experience these kinds of things. I am almost 50 and struggle with depression. Thank you Matthew & Lulu. Thank you for this beautiful song. For years now I have been encouraging song writers to sing their fantasies. I feel we have been stuck in music of melancholy that maintains and reinforces sadness and causes the acts of suicide like Sam’s. Same thing with movies and television. Sad songs need to now be sung to a therapist not into a microphone. Otherwise that sadness can go viral straight to the mind. This is a wonderful song for such a time as this. I found comfort hearing the words so softly sung to us all. I feel the pain. Lulu, you have such a beautiful voice.
