When you’ve grown up in church like I have, sometimes it’s easy to forget the Lord’s faithfulness. If you’re needing a hit upside the head to recognize the Lord’s provision in your life, look no further than Sunday Sermons by Anne Wilson. This soulful, old school tune tells it like it is and reminds us to keep the childlike faith.
“Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 18:2-4 NLT
Keeping that same childlike faith is a tough feat when we live in such a cruel world. I hate to say it, but it’s easy to gain the mentality of “I’ve heard this a thousand times before” with each passing sermon.
The simple fact is this – We don’t have it all figured out and we never will. Period. End of discussion.
That was a piece of humble pie, huh? We need God. We need every single teaching we’ve grown up hearing. It’s no accident that God had us in a pew every Sunday, even if our moms had to drag us out of bed by the hair to get us there on time. Totally not speaking from personal experience or anything…
How blessed are we that God was instilling biblical truths in our hearts from a young age? We should be overjoyed that He gave us that gift when so many don’t meet him until later in life!
Isaiah 31:33 NLT says, “But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel after those days,” says the Lord. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
God was drawing us to Himself even back then, and how merciful is or God to do such a thing? I know that by growing up in the church, and hearing all of those sermons (no matter how long they might be) saved me from so much worldly heartbreak.
“No matter what the world throws at me
I know I’ll make it through
All because of those heart stirring, spirit moving Sunday Sermons “
So the next time you find yourself in a tough situation where the world seems to be looming in, remember this one thing: You are His.
“Devil gonna try and take me out of that church
But you can’t take the church out of me”
“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” 1 John 4:4 NLT
The victory is already found in Jesus, friend. If you need another reminder, just let those old Sunday Sermon truths wash over you.
