Confidence in the Chaos

Recently it seems like this world we’re living in is going crazy. Thanks to the help of 24-hour news coverage, we are seeing war, devastating flooding, and pandemic deaths just to name a few. If you’re like me, you may be considering locking yourself in your house and staying inside till everything has calmed down.

But if I’m being honest with myself, I know that’s not how God would want me to live my life. While the present circumstances may seem chaotic and out of control, God has been teaching me about His ability to handle it all. When I say “all” I mean He’s able to handle the problems of this world, show me how to navigate this life, and how to show love and patience to those around me who are hurting ‘cuz if it’s up to me alone, I’m lost.

Matthew 11:28-30 sums it up perfectly:

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

We are what we focus on. If you have the news going 24/7 your perspective will be molded by what you see and hear there. That can only lead to feelings of anger, anxiety, and fear. Instead, Jesus is asking us not to bury our heads in the sand but to look toward him.

When we spend time learning about Jesus and his character, we build a relationship with him. We build trust in him. He is then able to show us how he can lift that heavy burden we have of feeling out of control and in need of answers. He can give us peace in the midst of the unknown. When we allow God to do what only he can do in us, we find ourselves at peace knowing that all things answer to him and he will give us the grace we need to face each day with courage and joy.

So remember, you don’t have to have it all figured out! All we have to do is come to him with our broken pieces God can handle it because he can handle it all. He sees you and is ready to take on that load you’re carrying. All we have to do is daily choose to trust, believe, and lay it down. By doing that, we’ll come out of this chaotic time better and stronger thanks to the hope and faith we have found in Him!
