Candace Cameron Bure Models Biblical Reconciliation in Response to JoJo Siwa

A recent social media interaction between JoJo Siwa and Candance Cameron Bure caught people’s attention and taught us a few things about the power of our words and how to handle people’s feelings.

JoJo Siwa, following a tiktok trend, pictured Candance Cameron Bure as the “celebrity she thought was the rudest.”

JoJo Siwa

Candace was confused by the video and quickly reached out to JoJo to find out what she had done that caused her to feel this way. She found out that JoJo was a big full house fan. At 11 years old, she was invited to attend the “Fuller House” premiere and asked Candance for a photo. Candace told her “not right now”, leaving JoJo disappointed and resulting in a moment that she has remembered for years. Even after having a positive experience with Candace years later on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Candace shares her conversation with JoJo in this video.

We can learn a few things from Candace’s response about how to handle uncomfortable situations or attacks on our character.

Get to the truth

Kindness is a priority for Candace, I would even call it a mission! She wrote a book about it called “Kind is the New Classy”! So, when someone felt she had been the opposite of kind, she was quick to get to the bottom of it. She didn’t assume that she had done nothing wrong. She didn’t attack back. She didn’t spread rumors. She asked “what did I do to hurt you?”.

Take Responsibility

When Candace heard that the reason for JoJo’s comment was that she hadn’t taken the time for a photo with her, she quickly apologized. Now that JoJo has had more of the same red carpet experiences, she gets it. There’s not always time to give to everyone who requests it at these events. Candance took responsibility for the past event. She could have made excuses or tried to justify her right to not take photos with everyone who asks. Instead, she acknowledged JoJo’s feelings and told her she was sorry for not taking the time for her.

Words Matter

Candace turned what could have been a feud into an opportunity to build a positive relationship. She told JoJo that she admired her and felt like they were both positive and encouraging people. Hopefully beginning to replace negative memories with positive ones. JoJo expressed that she thought this was just a silly TikTok trend and didn’t realize it was going to get national attention. Even when we feel like we’re just having fun or no one is really paying attention, the things we say and the way we treat people can greatly influence someone’s feelings.

Remember someone is watching you

Candance reminds us that whether we have thousands of followers or a few friends, we are all influencers. Someone is always watching the way we speak, the way we live, and the way we react when negativity comes our way. Whether those encounters are in real life or on social media, we need to remember that we are interacting with real people with real feelings. If we feel attacked, we have a choice. We can attack back or we can try to solve the problem, reduce the drama and perhaps build something instead of tearing it apart.

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
