Tim Tebow is Engaged and I AM Okay!

Thursday, January 10th, 2019

If you are a Christian single lady, the news of Tim Tebow‘s engagement to Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters may be, well, a less-than-great to you. Let’s face it, while you’ve been prayerfully believing for a husband, you may have specifically been hoping that Tim Tebow would show up at your doorstep and look at you like this:

via GIPHY

If that is you, then the moment you heard the news that Tim is officially off the market was probably a moment filled with all kinds of emotions!

Heart break, sadness, maybe even a few tears! I feel you!

When I discovered Tim’s news, I quickly saw a similar theme. My newsfeed looks something like this:

“Tim Tebow is engaged and I’m not okay “

via GIPHY

“Do you hear that? That’s the sound of every single Christian girl weeping at the news of Tim Tebow getting engaged.”

via GIPHY

I mean, I understand. He is a handsome, kind, generous man who loves Jesus! These days, guys like Tebow seem few and far between!

But I have a different reaction for you to consider. A thought that may challenge us, but will make us better. What if instead of letting the news send us into a spiral of I’m going to be single forever!  and “Why her? Why not me?” and “Will I ever find MY someone?”

Let’s change the way we look at this.

Let me be clear. Yes, I am talking about Tim Tebow getting engaged, but I’m also talking about the next time your friend gets engaged, your sister has a baby, your best friend gets your dream job, or what ever situation you find yourself in that has the tendency to send you spiraling in self-doubt and disappointment.

In those moments, let’s STOP. Give yourself a minute or two (or 90) to be sad. Feel all the feels!

But then… choose joy!

Choose to be excited for them! It is totally a choice! I know this firsthand. Choose to see how incredible it is that God did that in their life! See it for what it is – a beautiful story!

It’s going to strengthen your own faith, builds great friendships, and makes your everyday life a little less sad. Choosing joy in these moments not only helps your relationships flourish, it helps keep you healthy, too.

“Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.” (Romans 12:15 NLT)

And let me tell you this… you are not the exception! God has not forgotten you! He has just as beautiful of a story planned for you. Just because it doesn’t look like YOU planned it, doesn’t mean it won’t be amazing! Do you trust Him enough to wait for your incredible story?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.”

(Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT)

So. Will you all join me in congratulating, Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters? Let’s be the ones celebrating with them and believing that our story will be just as amazing because it will be exactly what God has been planning for us!

If you’re still having a hard time today, it’s ok. I get it! I would encourage you to dig a little deeper and talk to God about what’s really bothering you. He can handle all your hurt, your questions, and your disappointments! He wants to be there for you and bring you deeper into relationship with the One who made you.

A Single Girls Playlist for Getting Through Wedding Season!

Saturday, June 9th, 2018

It’s wedding season again and as a single girl, I can tell you that as much as I love a good romance (and I LOVE a love story! Pride and Prejudice, anyone?) it can sometimes be really hard to celebrate when you haven’t met that “person” yet!

So I created a playlist to listen to when I need to be reminded of these 3 things:

  1. I’m not alone in the waiting!
  2. I am still rocking life even if I’m single!
  3. God is faithful!

Not Alone in the Waiting:

I know that I can easily think that I am the only one who isn’t married or dating someone but that just isn’t true! So many people can understand and relate! (even Disney Princess’ get the struggle!)

Michael Bublé – Haven’t Met You Yet

Marie Miller – 6’2

Brett Eldredge- Haven’t Met You

Tori Kelly – Dear No One

Rock that Single Life:

Sometimes I need a reminder that I am not only fine on my own but that I am ROCKING life! These songs not only make me smile (and most of them are perfect belt out at the top of your lungs while dancing in your car songs) but remind me that I’ve got this!

Alicia Keys – Girl On Fire

Britt Nicole – Work Of Art

Rachel Platten – Fight Song

Kelly Clarkson – Miss Independent

Abba – Dancing Queen

God’s Got This:

For me, this one right here is honestly the most important! These songs remind me that I can trust God with all of my hopes, plans, dreams, and future because He is so faithful!

Lauren Daigle – Trust In You

The Belonging Co – Beautiful Story

one sonic society – Great is Thy Faithfulness

the Sing Team – Satisfied in You

Elevation Worship – Give Me Faith

Hopefully, if you listened to all of those songs you are feeling like you can tackle anything that comes at you but at a minimum, you are ready to take on the next wedding you go to! Go knowing you are not alone! You are killing at life! And most importantly God’s got you!

You can listen to the full playlist on Spotify! What songs would you add to the list?

These 5 Jesus Centered Love Stories Will Make You Swoon!

Thursday, February 14th, 2019

Who doesn’t adore a good love story? And it’s even better when you get to see it play out from crush to happily ever after. But what I love even more than a happy ending is seeing the journey to get to that special someone.

If you are anything like me, still single and waiting on the man of my dreams, it is easy to lose hope that it will happen at all. These are some of my favorite stories that remind me of God’s plan is incredible and to hold on to that hope!

Rebecca St. James and Jacob “Cubbie” Fink

In 2000 Rebecca St. James released, “Wait For Me.” I don’t know about you, but 14 year old me had this song on repeat! I was thrilled to imagine how Rebecca St. James’ love story would play out and was inspired to pray the same things for my life.

( I wonder how many of the other girls on this list were inspired by this song!)

It took some time, but in 2011, Rebecca married Jacob Fink (from the band Foster the People.) Her brother, Joel Smallbone (from for King & Country and next on our list for his sweet romance,) sang “Wait For Me” at the wedding!

(All together now, aaawwwww!!! 😍)

Moriah Peters and Joel Smallbone

Okay, before you watch this video there is one incredible thing you need to know… Moriah and Joel had their first kiss during their ceremony! Is that not the sweetest thing ever?? Okay, you are now free to watch the video and swoon…

And if saving their first kiss didn’t make you swoon enough, did you hear that song she wrote and sang with her now husband?!? Could it be any cuter??? 💕 What I love so much about Moriah and Joel’s story is that even when others (like the judges on American Idol) told her that saving her first kiss was limiting her career or her life, she stayed true to what she believed. That is so beautiful! Props to Moriah for knowing your true identity isn’t in what others think you are but in who God created you to be! 🙌🏼

Tori Kelley and André Murillo

I don’t know about you but this song has been on the top of my “Still Waiting” playlist for YEARS!

(Yes, I have a still waiting playlist, it’s the best thing to play when I need a good reminder that I am not alone and I can wait! See what is on my playlist here!)

First off, girl can SING!  But what I really love is that Tori was belting out some serious truth,

“But I’d love to have a soul mate
God will give him to me someday
And I know it’ll be worth the wait”

And guess what??? God totally did exactly that! Tori married André Murillo in May! Seriously, how stunning does Tori look? And did anybody else notice that her new husband looks pretty similar to her imaginary man in the music video? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Jamie Grace and Aaron Collins

I am going to be honest with you, I haven’t really followed Jamie’s story for very long but when I saw that she was inviting all of her fans to her wedding, I took notice and then totally fell in love with her – and her story! I adore that her wedding video song wasn’t only about how much she loves her man, but an encouragement for those of us who have yet to find that person!

Taya Smith and Ben Gaukrodger

Taya and Ben’s story is so interesting to me because it was such a mystery! I love that in the time we live, where everything is public and all over social media, they kept their relationship their own for so long! This video just makes me smile because it feels like you are hearing a good friend tell you all about how much she likes this boy! If you are still single, Taya’s got some really good advice for you too, so hold on until the end!

Hi guys. We got married yesterday and it was the GREATEST; I highly recommend it. It was like that because of Jesus & the people He has placed in our life for such a time as this and we are blown away by all the love, support & kindness. But I can’t do my first post as a MRS. without first giving the biggest T H A N K Y O U SO VERY MUCH to @lizmartinezbridal for beautifully gifting me THE DRESS. I’ll never forget the moment I stepped out from behind the curtain, nervously holding my breath as I hadn’t seen the dress in the mirror and didn’t know how I felt. My best friend’s mouth was hanging open but I couldn’t tell if it was good shock or bad until @k_fielding started to cry and I knew maybe it was good shock ha. I stared into the mirror trying to take it all in but it was all sealed the moment @hannahhobbs passed me my veil and I had the ‘oh my lanta this is my dress 😭🙌🏻😍 moment’ And I can say I have experienced all of those emotions in full yesterday wearing this dress & couldn’t imagine wearing anything else for my wedding day. So @lizmartinezbridal —- THANK YOU for making my wedding dress dream come true – your name was on my dream dress inspiration board but never in a million years did I ever imagine I would be walking down the aisle towards my promise in one of your designs – I felt so very special, SO blessed and SO ready for the most special day of my life so far. . . and you were apart of making that happen – so thank you Liz for more than you’ll know & I hope to see you in Tel Aviv soon !! Much Love, Taya x x x 💜👰🏼😘 #lizmartinezbridal #dreamdress #accabelieveit #ihavethegreatestfriendsintheworld #LizMartinezmakingdreamscometrue #halvaforlife

Livin’ that #farmlife 🙏♥👍🏼 Missing home, missing the farm, missing the boy, missing the island. So I’m sharing this video as a way to express my gratitude for all the blessings in my life and to entice any of you watching this who may feel unease or anxiety with the state of our world to just breathe, slow down, go outside, find something not man made and give it a good look. A leaf. A bug. A cloud. A sheep. As William Cullen Bryant says, “Seek communion with her visible form….go forth under the open sky and list to nature’s teachings.” What a beautiful creation over which we’ve been given the responsibility of stewardship. The song is “Chain Breaker” by Zach Williams. I didn’t get his permission to use it. Hope that’s alright. 😬🤷‍♂️🙏♥ Big fan Zach. Please don’t sue me for all my sheep. Thanks to my farm team for all you do.

10 Songs to Remind You Why Easter is a Big Deal

Thursday, March 29th, 2018

You probably know that Easter, for the church, is all about the death and resurrection of Jesus. But have you taken any time this season to stop and think about what that means for you? And for the world?

Easter means the mess in your life is wiped clean. Jesus’ death and resurrection made you righteous and beautiful. You don’t have to try to be holy. Salvation is a gift from God. No one needs to be a slave to the negative in life. The entire world now has hope.

It’s hard to sum up, so we’ll let these verses and these songs get you thinking on just how amazing this message is.

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT)

“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8 NLT)

1. Forever | Kari Jobe

The ground began to shake
The stone was rolled away
His perfect love could not be overcome
Now death where is your sting
Our resurrected King has rendered you defeated

Forever, He is glorified
Forever, He is lifted high
Forever, He is risen
He is alive
He is alive

2. Nailed To the Cross | Rend Collective

My sin is nailed to the cross
My soul is healed by the scars
The weight of guilt I bear no more
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
My sin is nailed to the cross
My soul is healed by the scars
Now I’m alive forevermore
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord

3. Forgiven | Crowder

I’m the one who held the nail
It was cold between my fingertips
I’ve hidden in the garden
I’ve denied You with my very lips

God, I fall down to my knees
with a hammer in my hand
You look at me, arms open

Forgiven! Forgiven!
Child there is freedom from all of it
Say goodbye to every sin
You are forgiven!

4. Death Was Arrested | North Point InsideOut

Released from my chains I’m a prisoner no more
My shame was a ransom He faithfully bore
He cancelled my debt and He called me His friend
When death was arrested and my life began

Oh, Your grace so free
Washes over me
You have made me new
Now life begins with You
It’s your endless love
Pouring down on us
You have made us new
Now life begins with You

5. The Cross Has the Final Word | Cody Carnes

The cross has the final word
The cross has the final word
He traded death for eternal life
The cross has the final word

There’s nothing stronger, nothing higher
Nothing greater, than the Name of Jesus
All the honour, all the power
All the glory to the Name of Jesus
There’s nothing stronger, nothing higher
Nothing greater, than the Name of Jesus
All the honour, all the power
All the glory to the Name of Jesus

6. Glorious Day | Casting Crowns

One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He
Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree
And took the nails for me

Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day

7. At the Cross | Chris Tomlin

At the cross, at the cross
I surrender my life
I’m in awe of You
I’m in awe of You
Where Your love ran red
And my sin washed white
I owe all to You
I owe all to You, Jesus

8. Calvary | Hillsong Worship

The Savior alone carried the cross
For all of my debts, He paid the cost
Salvation complete now forever I’m free
Calvary covers it all

Calvary covers it all
My sin and shame, don’t count anymore
All praise to the One who has ransomed my soul
Calvary covers it all

9. Death in His Grave | John Mark McMillan

So three days in darkness slept
The morning sun of righteousness
But rose to shame the throes of death
And overturn his rule
Now daughters and the sons of men
Would pay not their dues again
The debt of blood they owed was rent
When the day rolled anew

On Friday a thief
On Sunday a king
Laid down in grief
But woke holding keys
To hell on that day
The first born of the slain
The man Jesus Christ laid
Death in his grave

10. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross | Isaac Watts

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

What If I’m Single Forever?

Wednesday, February 13th, 2019

Have you ever been asked a question that has changed your life?

I was getting to know my future sister-in-law. We were casually talking as we strolled through Target one Sunday afternoon. We got to the toy aisle to pick out something for our nephew, when she turned to me and said:

“So, do you want to be a daycare teacher forever?”

She didn’t think anything of it, but it literally stopped me in my tracks. I quickly said, “No.” But when she asked what I wanted to do, I had no answer except that, forever, all I’ve wanted was be a wife and a mother. Once that happened, I would be set!

The conversation ended, but the thoughts stuck with me. Is this all I want from my life? Is it enough? Just waiting for my husband to arrive so then I can really start to live? What if I’m single forever? Then what do I do?

Those were really hard questions for me to process, so I do what I often do when I need to talk through a problem. I called my friend Noelle.

The wisdom Noelle gave me was this, “… let’s do a bible study on faith!”

I was pretty confused. How was “faith” going to help me figure out what God wants me to do with my life if I’m single forever?! Also, the question itself was still freaking me out: WHAT IF I AM SINGLE FOREVER!?

But I agreed and started a study on faith. Couldn’t hurt, right?

Noelle meant what she said. We followed through and met at our favorite coffee shop in Old Town Camarillo. As we sat across from each other and talked, I realized that I have a little issue with giving God control over my future. A future that I thought I had figured out quite nicely! Husband + Kids = happiness. (Like how I’m putting just a little pressure on one thing to bring me complete happiness and fulfillment? No big deal!) My expectations for my future meant I was constantly disappointed with my life or mad at God for not making it happen the way I wanted.

Turns out when you study faith, God makes you walk it out! Shocker, huh?

I didn’t fully realize this about myself before, but giving control to God was terrifying. What if God’s plan doesn’t include a husband? Or Kids? I felt God asking me over and over, “Am I still good if you never get married? Will you still choose me?”

These questions still blow my mind. Because I want to say, “Of course He is still good!” And obviously, I will choose to follow Him. But… what about when I feel 100% alone watching all my friends and family get married and start families? Will I be able to truthfully say He is good? Will I feel like he has abandoned me?

My heart breaks at this, I know that He is still good and has done far more for me than I could ever do in return, but I couldn’t imagine a life where I wasn’t someday married and a mother.

I told God, “I don’t know how to give you my husband forever, but I can give Him to you today.”

“I choose to believe that you are a good God and your plans for me are great, even when I don’t feel it. I will choose to believe that you have already given me a future and a hope!”

I did this every day. I woke up and gave Him my future. Some days were easy. Other days were horrible. Because it had to be more than just words. My actions and my way of thinking also had to change.

For me, when I chose to give God my future, that meant a season of choosing to not think about it. I couldn’t wonder if I would meet my husband at certain events or even do silly things like look at wedding boards on Pinterest or talk about baby names that I like with friends. Jesus was challenging me to stop planning and just walk with Him. To know that he was a far better planner than I could ever be. To give my plans to Him.

So that’s what I did. Every day for a few years.

I can I tell you that was the single hardest thing I have ever done.

But He also never let me down.

Every day that I gave Him my future, He reminded me that:

He is Faithful.

He is Trustworthy.

He does what He says.

God began to show me things about myself that were unused because they weren’t needed in “my plan” but were incredibly necessary and vital to His plan.

This is a concept that changed my life, but I still need to be reminded of pretty regularly. So, while writing this, I recently called Noelle to ask why she suggested we study faith in the first place. Her answer was brilliant and simple. “Because when we are in the word it is easier to hear God’s voice, and harder to be swayed by the voice of Satan.”

When we are in the word it is easier to hear God’s voice, and harder to be swayed by the voice of Satan. Click To Tweet

Fast forward to now. I look back at that time, and I see the amazing things that came from choosing God over my control. He has opened door after door that I could never have imagined! I am still single and, to be honest, it’s awful sometimes. I still desire that relationship so much, but I am very aware that if I had settled for my version of my future, I wouldn’t have moved from California to Nashville, I wouldn’t have this amazing job, I wouldn’t be talking to you in this blog post or on the Nonexclusive Podcast. I would have missed out on some truly incredible things that are vital to His plan.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart;

do not depend on your own understanding.

Seek his will in all you do,

and he will show you which path to take.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
