Anne Wilson’s First Book, “My Jesus” and Why It’s So Powerful

Anne Wilson’s song “My Jesus” has reached the heart of millions. It became the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Christian Airplay Chart of 2021 for seven weeks total and received a billboard music award for Top Christian Song of the Year. Now Anne has turned her powerful testimony into her first book, “My Jesus: From Heartache to Hope”

The Story Behind the Song

Anne Wilson wrote the song “My Jesus” about losing her brother, Jacob in a tragic car accident. The song recently won the Pop/Contemporary recorded song of the year at the 53rd annual Dove Awards and Wilson was named New Artist of the Year.

Anne says about the experience of co-writing the song with Jeff Pardo and Mathew West,

“We finished writing the song and I just knew in my heart that it was a song that was gonna change people’s lives.”

Anne’s story about her brother captivates us as she shares her heart through music, performances, and interviews. Anne felt like these interactions only allowed her a short moment to talk about what God had done in her life. So, she took the opportunity to go deeper and expand the story in her first book called “My Jesus: From Heartache to Hope” published by Thomas Nelson.

Anne wants readers to know that

“Whatever you are feeling, God can handle it–all of it. The tears, screams, and questions. God invites you to let Him tend to your heart.”

Keeping personal journals and enjoying nature are both a part of Anne’s creative process when writing songs and was a starting point to the therapeutic journey of writing her story. She had help writing the book from her high school French teacher. Sharing memories with her teacher, who knew her brother Jacob and writing these stories about him helped Anne through the grieving process and continue healing from the loss.

Knowing that everyone is struggling with many different things in life, Anne prays that hearing her story will point people to Jesus where they can find peace, purpose, and hope, even in heartbreak.

Why is the song “My Jesus” so powerful?

The message about the One who “makes a way when there ain’t no way” resonates with believers because we’ve experienced it! And when we experience the life changing love and grace He gives we can’t help but tell people “‘bout my Jesus.” Those of us who belong to Christ want others to know that He can do for you what He’s done for me!

My friend Cherie has gone way past the point of weary caring for her husband with Huntington’s Disease that grows progressively worse every day with no hope for a cure, still she would love to tell you ‘bout her Jesus!

My friend Lauren has needed many tears wiped away from the loss of her home and many of her earthly possessions to the loss of babies never surviving to birth, but she lives to tell people “‘bout her Jesus!”

My family has experienced the heavy burden from multiple long seasons of job loss, through it all my Jesus has always provided everything I need and so much more.

Even many of our favorite Christian music artists have stories of God’s faithfulness in hard times. TobyMac and Steven Curtis Chapman have experienced the sudden loss of a child that was too much to carry. Both men faithfully continue to testify “‘bout their Jesus.”

Steven Curtis Chapman shares the journey of his musical career and the story of how Jesus brought him through this loss in his biography “Between Heaven and the Real World”.

TobyMac opens up about losing his son in these interviews with Good Morning America and People Magazine.

So if you’re going through something hard, something painful… know that you aren’t alone and know that God loves you deeply.
