5 Ways Christian Artists Are Showing Support for Ukraine

With everything going on in the world right now, it’s pretty easy to feel helpless. You may try to escape by scrolling on your favorite apps to get a break from the news for a little while, but sure enough – another negative post pops up.

But take heart, some of your favorite Christian artists are posting great reminders of God’s faithfulness during these hard times.

We hope these 5 things encourage you, fill you with hope, and encourage you to keep praying for the conflict in Ukraine!

1. for KING & COUNTRY

Brothers, Joel and Luke Smallbone had their largest performance yet of more than 53,000 attendees at the Houston Rodeo! The band made event history by taking the stage as the first Christian pop act to perform. During their history-making set, they decided to dedicate their moving song “Shoulders” to the people of Eastern Europe.

3. Love and The Outcome

Chris and Jodi King posted this caption in response to a viral video of Ukrainians kneeling in their city to pray.

“Our grandparents are from the Ukraine… Chris’ band toured in Kyiv 15 years ago… watching this unprovoked Russian invasion is beyond devastating. Praying feels futile, but if the people of Ukraine can kneel in the cold and pray we can too. Let’s lift up heavy hearted prayers tonight 🙏🏻💔”

4. Jen Ledger

Jen Ledger from Skillet posted this touching video from when the band performed in Ukraine over the years. The video shows behind-the-scenes footage from 2012, 2016, and 2018 tour dates with the message: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the beautiful people affected by this current tragedy.

5. Mike Donehey

Mike Donehey of Tenth Avenue North passionately shared on social media what God has been stirring in him:

“Weep with those who weep, “rejoice with those who rejoice.” These are the words that have been coming back to me night after night while out on tour with @bdwmusic.

We find ourselves weeping over Ukraine. We’re weeping over war. We’re weeping over Mike’s brother Jay. We’re weeping with the lady who asked for prayer in VIP because her husband just left her. We weep with the parents in Vegas who just found out their son had died. We weep for and with so many.

And at the same time, we rejoice. We rejoice that Jay is with Jesus. We rejoice that our friend Dave is recovering from a heart attack. We rejoice with the man who said our songs spoke to an entire homeless community. We rejoice with the lady who said a song set her free from drug addiction. We may grieve. But we grieve as those who always have an insane hope.

It’s a crazy dizzying thing to constantly weep and rejoice. But the alternative is numbness. May we never resort to that. “Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy.” God give us grace to do both.

If you want to pray more deeply for the conflict in Ukraine, here are five specific ways to pray.
