10 Songs to Remind You Why Easter is a Big Deal

You probably know that Easter, for the church, is all about the death and resurrection of Jesus. But have you taken any time this season to stop and think about what that means for you? And for the world?

Easter means the mess in your life is wiped clean. Jesus’ death and resurrection made you righteous and beautiful. You don’t have to try to be holy. Salvation is a gift from God. No one needs to be a slave to the negative in life. The entire world now has hope.

It’s hard to sum up, so we’ll let these verses and these songs get you thinking on just how amazing this message is.

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT)

“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8 NLT)

1. Forever | Kari Jobe

The ground began to shake
The stone was rolled away
His perfect love could not be overcome
Now death where is your sting
Our resurrected King has rendered you defeated

Forever, He is glorified
Forever, He is lifted high
Forever, He is risen
He is alive
He is alive

2. Nailed To the Cross | Rend Collective

My sin is nailed to the cross
My soul is healed by the scars
The weight of guilt I bear no more
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
My sin is nailed to the cross
My soul is healed by the scars
Now I’m alive forevermore
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord

3. Forgiven | Crowder

I’m the one who held the nail
It was cold between my fingertips
I’ve hidden in the garden
I’ve denied You with my very lips

God, I fall down to my knees
with a hammer in my hand
You look at me, arms open

Forgiven! Forgiven!
Child there is freedom from all of it
Say goodbye to every sin
You are forgiven!

4. Death Was Arrested | North Point InsideOut

Released from my chains I’m a prisoner no more
My shame was a ransom He faithfully bore
He cancelled my debt and He called me His friend
When death was arrested and my life began

Oh, Your grace so free
Washes over me
You have made me new
Now life begins with You
It’s your endless love
Pouring down on us
You have made us new
Now life begins with You

5. The Cross Has the Final Word | Cody Carnes

The cross has the final word
The cross has the final word
He traded death for eternal life
The cross has the final word

There’s nothing stronger, nothing higher
Nothing greater, than the Name of Jesus
All the honour, all the power
All the glory to the Name of Jesus
There’s nothing stronger, nothing higher
Nothing greater, than the Name of Jesus
All the honour, all the power
All the glory to the Name of Jesus

6. Glorious Day | Casting Crowns

One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He
Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree
And took the nails for me

Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day

7. At the Cross | Chris Tomlin

At the cross, at the cross
I surrender my life
I’m in awe of You
I’m in awe of You
Where Your love ran red
And my sin washed white
I owe all to You
I owe all to You, Jesus

8. Calvary | Hillsong Worship

The Savior alone carried the cross
For all of my debts, He paid the cost
Salvation complete now forever I’m free
Calvary covers it all

Calvary covers it all
My sin and shame, don’t count anymore
All praise to the One who has ransomed my soul
Calvary covers it all

9. Death in His Grave | John Mark McMillan

So three days in darkness slept
The morning sun of righteousness
But rose to shame the throes of death
And overturn his rule
Now daughters and the sons of men
Would pay not their dues again
The debt of blood they owed was rent
When the day rolled anew

On Friday a thief
On Sunday a king
Laid down in grief
But woke holding keys
To hell on that day
The first born of the slain
The man Jesus Christ laid
Death in his grave

10. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross | Isaac Watts

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
